Individual and Group Clinical Supervision for Registered and Qualifying Psychotherapists
Milne (2007) defined clinical supervision as: “The formal provision, by approved supervisors, of a relationship-based education and training that is work-focused and which manages, supports, develops and evaluates the work of colleague/s
I am currently providing clinical supervision for RP’s and RP(Q)’s in Ontario. Working collaboratively with my supervisees to strengthen and grow their clinical knowledge and abilities has become one my most enjoyable career focuses. In addition to discussing cases and giving feedback clinical supervision can be used to strengthen and develop self confidence and finding your unique voice in therapy.
Group Supervision is an excellent opportunity for both new and experienced clinicians to connect with and learn from their colleagues. There is an opportunity here to share and contemplate varied viewpoints and clinical direction for a variety of skilled professionals. The safe space created in these groups allows for attendees to share personal experiences, ask general questions regarding ethics and procedural practices in business. Those clinicians working in private practice may find particular enjoyment and comfort in participating in group supervision as it helps to create a social network to rely on and pull from that counters the loneliness and isolation some clinicians in private practice face. Financially this can be a more affordable option for some as well especially for those looking to accumulate the number of supervision hours the CRPO requires for clinicians to reach independent practice status.
I run a relaxed, fun and supportive learning group environment with encouragement for each practitioner to openly share feedback and ask questions surrounding cases and ask general therapy questions.
