Are You Stuck In A State Of Worry?
Do feelings of stress and overwhelm impact your daily life and relationships?
Are you often panicked, even about everyday situations and decisions?
Is anxiety causing you to spiral?
The cycle of anxiety can make us feel like there is no relief in sight from fear, worry, and negative self-talk. Eventually, these symptoms creep into every aspect of life, affecting our ability to make decisions, enjoy activities, and connect with others. Instead of feeling relaxed and confident, anxiety has a way of making us question everything.
There are also physical symptoms that add to the discomfort of living in a constant state worry. Headaches, digestive issues, and insomnia are common and can compromise daily routines. Feelings of dread and panic live in the body, creating tension and the sensation of being “stuck.”
Perhaps Your Child Is Struggling With Anxiety…
If you are the parent of a child who struggles with anxiety, you may be wondering what can be done to relieve them of their daily fears. Maybe they have a hard time separating from you, making connections with other kids, or feeling confident in themselves. They might often complain of stomach aches and other physical symptoms that cause them to be distracted and sometimes unable to attend school.
Anxiety is a common struggle for adults and children alike, but therapy is a valuable tool for overcoming symptoms. Together with your therapist at Sweet Spot Counselling, you can explore the root causes of your stress and establish long-lasting strategies for managing your worries and discomfort.
Many Of Us Are Living With Anxiety, Especially Following The Covid-19 Pandemic
While anxiety is a human—and sometimes healthy—response to stress, it’s essential to seek help when the cycle of negative thinking and self-talk begins to impact our quality of life.
Unfortunately, anxiety disorders are on the rise globally. And in fact, it’s estimated that the prevalence of anxiety among Canadians 15 and older has doubled over the last decade. [1] There are many factors that could have contributed to this increase, including the rise of social media and a comparison culture that perpetuates perfectionism. However, the Covid-19 pandemic may also be to blame, as it has led to the development of mood disorders among a wide range of individuals.
The problem with anxiety is that the cycle is very difficult to break without the insight of an outsider. Our brains become acclimated to panicked thinking, and without perspective, negative and self-critical thinking becomes very overpowering. Fortunately, a trained and experienced therapist can be the key to regaining control over your thought process and stress response.

What To Expect
Our therapists view treatment for anxiety holistically. Evaluating when and where in your life your worries originated, we are likely to explore your family history and past traumatic events that may have triggered symptoms. As we develop a deeper understanding of your anxiety’s root causes, we can begin the process of individualizing therapeutic interventions to your unique goals and needs, always working at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
From a holistic perspective, a combination of behavioural and body-based counselling approaches is typically what’s needed to reduce symptoms of anxiety in a lasting way. Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) offers skills for tolerating distress, while Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) allows you to reframe negative thoughts based in anxiety. And somatic methods, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), can be particularly useful for neutralizing trauma at the core of your symptoms.
Our approach to treatment heals the mind-body connection while providing a physical release of tension, fear, and worry. We are confident that with the support of your therapist, you can take back the aspects of your life that anxiety has taken away.
Still Unsure If Anxiety Treatment Is Right For You?
How long does therapy for anxiety last?
Individual results in counselling are based on several factors, including consistency of sessions, the therapist-client relationship, and the severity of your anxiety symptoms. Generally speaking, however, clients tend to see significant results after 10 to 12 therapy sessions.
There are no quick fixes for anxiety, but we will work with you in therapy to ensure you are on the right path to relief.
What happens in a counselling session?
Because we individualize anxiety treatment, counselling sessions vary from client to client. Typically, however, the process will begin with a standard intake that will go over your history, symptoms, and goals for therapy. Your therapist will be curious about what has and has not worked to reduce symptoms in the past, and with this information, they will walk you through some of the therapeutic approaches that might work for you.
Throughout ongoing sessions, you will develop skills for coping, stress management, and emotional regulation, and your therapist will check in with you along the way to discuss your progress.
Will my anxiety ever go away?
Anxious thoughts and worries are a normal part of life, and the goal of therapy is not to entirely eradicate symptoms; that is unrealistic. However, we hope that through therapy, you gain the skills and tools needed to reduce the intensity and frequency of anxiety symptoms so that you can get back to living a happy and healthy life.
